“For me, I really like corn!” said Tariq who went viral on Tiktok and Instagram after appearing on Recess Therapy, an on-the-street style interview show. In the video, the 7 year-old Brooklyn boy can be seen devouring corn on the cob. “Ever since I was told that corn was real, it tasted good,” he explains. “I can’t imagine a more beautiful thing.”

@doingthings repost of the video, which currently has over 23.4 million views, helped jumpstart Tariq’s meteoric rise to internet fame, prompting others, like The Gregory Brothers to run with it on TikTok as well. Known for turning viral videos into catchy songs, their rework was posted on August 18 and currently has over 68 Million views. They also turned their audio into a TikTok sound which other TikTokers have now used nearly 700,000 times!

But, the trend didn’t stop with TikTok - “Corn Kid” has been making waves on YouTube as well. The Gregory Brothers, aka schmoyoho on YouTube, video has accumulated over 3.4 Million views and is currently sitting at number 52 on their Top Music Video chart.

The Corn Song has turned Tariq from a normal kid into an internet sensation and he is taking his newfound fame all the way to the bank. He has already appeared in a Chipotle ad, began selling personalized video messages on Cameo (which start at $220 each), and is earning royalties from The Corn Song. South Dakota even named him their Corn-bassador. No one knows what the future holds for Tariq, but it’s safe to say that his college education is probably more than paid for at this point.
